This is the first bakery cafe that mainly sells high-class bread, located in the Gangnam district, one of the high-end residential areas in Seoul, Korea. After much research and consideration, the cafe opened by a Korean owner was named “WHITELIER,” coined from “white” and “atelier.” The design is based on the concept of “baking bread in a mysterious white space.” It is important how eye-catching it is as the first store, but in this location, the Hangul characters of each tenant were installed in and around the building, giving a lively impression that is typical of Korea. Taking advantage of this feature, the decoration was removed as much as possible, and the curves resembling soft bread were used to create a sculptural beauty. By joining steel in a three-dimensional manner, a smooth curves of the facade were realized, and created a gentle and dignified appearance. It is designed to communicate deliciousness of freshly baked bread by showing passers-by how bakers make bread inside the shop with the aim of gaining customer trust and boosting sales. We hope that this mysterious white shop along the boulevard lined with outdoor advertising signs will hopefully become a new landmark in the city.
